Practical projects

The Green Blue is initiating a series of practical projects around the country

In the past, environmental programmes have focussed on producing leaflets to raise awareness. The Green Blue goes one step further by incorporating Practical Projects to really test out what works.

Our first Practical Project is being trialled by Marina Developments Limited (MDL) to capture and filter all boat washdown run-off, including residual anti-fouling.

The Green Blue would like to develop further practical projects in the following areas:

 

• The design and production of innovative environmentally friendly products and facilities within the recreational marine industry
• Actions or facilities which mitigate environmental impacts of recreational watersports
• Technologies which enable users to purchase, maintain and use their craft and equipment in an environmentally responsible manner
• Actions which promote good environmental practice amongst providers of marine services and amongst watersports participants
• Technologies leading to sustainable boating so that any increase in both participation figures and the recreational marine industry size is achievable while minimising environmental degradation

Projects should be linked to these six areas:

 

• Waste management
• Cleaning and maintenance
• Oil spills
• Antifouling and marine paints
• Resource efficiency
• Effects on wildlife

All these issues affect both the recreational marine industry and participants to a greater or lesser extent.

Please note projects will need to provide match funding to be eligible for funding from Green Blue.
